Songs of Home: The vivid sounds and complex dark stories of early colonial Australia
Songs of Home is a multi-genre performance exploring the vivid sounds and complex dark stories of early colonial Australia. The Matildas, made up of musicians from the colonised land now known as Australia with special guests from the US and UK, explore the music from a complex and turbulent period in Australia’s history. The forgotten sounds of folk songs, ballads, fantastical tales, and lively dances brought by Europeans to Australia around the turn of the 19th century are intertwined with Baroque music from mainland Europe, new Australian music, and Australian indigenous and colonial stories and poems. Join us as we explore the rich, quirky, and often dark musical storylines that have shaped the complex country and peoples of Australia.
